Intramural Program

The East Fishkill intramural program has over 900 registrants between the ages of four and eighteen. The program is open to any East Fishkill resident (proof required). All applicants are accepted and are placed on age appropriate teams. Registration for the intramural program is for two seasons. The Fall season is between September and November and the Spring season is between April and June. The objective of the intramural program is to teach the basic skills of soccer in an environment that emphasises fun. Although competition is encouraged in the older age groups the main emphasis remains on sportsmanship and enjoyment. Detailed information about the intramural program can be found by using the index above.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for registering your child in the East Fishkill Soccer Club. We welcome the returning players and newly registered players and are looking forward to another fun season of intramural soccer.

The mission of the EFSC's intramural program, as stated in our rules and guideline is:

  • To instill the essential elements of sportsmanship, teamwork, and cooperation among the players, coaches, and parents.
  • To teach the techniques and rules of soccer.
  • To provide an enjoyable athletic activity for all participants by requiring each player to play no less than one half of each game.
  • To improve physical conditioning.
  • As parents of EFSC intramural players, we ask you to be aware of several items:
    Equipment & Uniform
EFSC provides each of its intramural players with the following uniform items:

    Shirt, shorts, socks

    Players must supply their own:

    Soccer cleats
Baseball or football cleats are not acceptable alternatives. Their cleating is considered dangerous for the opposing players, particularly the goalkeepers. Sneakers are the only acceptable alternative footgear. However, these are not recommended because of the danger they may present on a slippery day.

    Shinguards
Shinguards are mandatory for both practice and games. Your child will not be allowed to practice or play without their shinguards. Soccer socks need to completely cover your child's shinguards during practice and games also.

    Soccer Ball
The different age divisions use the following size soccer balls:

  • U5, U6 size 3
  • U7, U8, U9, U10, U12 size 4
  • U15, U17, U19 size 5

  • Each child needs his or her own soccer ball for practicing. Both with their team and at home.
    Volunteer Tasks
The East Fishkill Soccer Club is made up entirely of volunteers.

Beginning with the board membership, all program directors, coaches and assistant coaches, division leaders, and coordinators for referees, concession, uniforms, equipment, fields, pictures, and trophies, etc., are spending their hours to provide your children an enjoyable experience with the game of soccer.

    We Need Your Help

We will be asking your help in support of your coaches and the rest of the club. Division leaders will distribute the information about the various tasks we need to accomplish to their coaches and the coaches to the team's parents. Please step forward when asked. The only way to continue to succeed in accomplishing our goals is through all of us working together.

    Player Placement
At the end of the spring season, the intramural coaches are asked to evaluate each of the individual players on their teams with regard to the rest of the players within their age division. These evaluations are kept confidential and are used to place the players for the following season. Every effort is made to distribute the players by skill level so that no team is able to dominate its age division.

We strive to make as competitive as possible the games between the EFSC teams within every age division: this includes those age divisions U12 through U19 that play inter-club soccer.

We make allowances for siblings playing within the same age division and we take into account requests for carpooling.

However, you should make your child aware that he may not again be on the same team as some of his friends next fall. Please point out to him or her that, in this way, he'll be able to make new soccer friends without losing the old ones.

    Spectator Responsibility
    Two reminders for our spectators:

    Our EFSC referees
Our intramural referees are a valuable resource. Without them we would not be able to run the games for you children.

In particular, the younger ones used in the CU8, CU9 and GU10 age divisions, are considered to be in apprenticeship. We are making every effort to provide them with ongoing supervision until they develop their refereeing skills.

This does not mean that we accord them any less authority over the procedure of the games than any other referees used by the club.

We expect our coaches and our players' parents to accede to the referee's authority in a professional fashion.

This means that we expect no derogatory comments on the refereeing of any EFSC intramural game. And, in the case of an injured player, we expect both coaches and parents to remain on the sidelines until summoned onto the field by the referee.

You should understand that our referees are being instructed to file written comment on the behavior of the spectators and coaches at every game they referee. At the same time, the supervisory referees and coaches are making similar comments on the referee's skills.

You also should understand that, in circumstances when a coach or spectator gets "out-of-hand", any EFSC intramural referee may "card" the coach. This will result in the forfeiture of the game by the offending team.

    Coaching from the sidelines
You should understand that, in this regard, soccer differs from any other team sport, particularly those, like football and basketball, in which we see constant coaching from the sidelines. The ingenuity and creativeness needed for this game are fostered by allowing the players to play without this constant instruction from the sidelines.

Shout for Joy! Shout for encouragement! Shout to compliment a good play!

But do your best to leave the shouting of instructions to your child and his teammates to the coach. He'll know when they need to be reminded of something and when they don't.

    Suggestions
A suggestion box is available at the mouth of the storage area next to the concession stand. Take the liberty of letting us know how you feel we can improve the club. After all, we're all in this together.

We do expect your comments to be constructive rather that disruptive. And please supply us with your name and phone number so we can contact you about your concerns.
